Meetings held on the third Monday of the month, are known as competition nights. Members enter pictures and slides in Open and Set subjects for constructive judging, usually by an external judge. All members are encouraged to submit. The aim of the night is to provide a challenge, assistance and support.

Each month the previous month's images are shown along with the judge's comments and members have the opportunity to discuss the images and offer their own comments.

For the competition there are sections for Small Colour prints, Large Colour prints, Monochrome prints and Slides. Guidelines for entries can be viewed here.


January 15th -	Enter Open and View Through a Window - A window is defined as an opening for the purpose of admitting light and air. "Through the Window" is therefore defined as picture taken through an opening designed to admit air and light into a building or form of transport. It may be taken through glass, but in all cases, some evidence of the opening surround or a reflection must be included in the picture. Views through shop windows are excluded.
February 19th -	Enter Open and Flowers - An image in which flowers are the dominant subject. The flowers may be cut or growing, and may be wild or cultivated.
March 19th -	Enter Open and Nature - An image that shows no evidence of man. The subject may be animal, mineral or vegetable, such as birds, animals, plants, scenery but no captive animal, cultivated plant or arranged scenery. The sky and weather would be included.
April 16th -	Enter Open and At My Place Inside or Out - An image whose main focus fits this subject.
May 21st -	Enter Open and Street Scene: With or Without People - Self explanatory.
June 18th -	Enter Open and Movement - An image whose main subject is movement in some form, and depicted as you wish.
July 16th -	Enter Open and Doorways - An image showing a doorway with a door. The doorway should be the dominant subject.
August 20th -	Enter Open and Sports Action - An image with the emphasis on action in any sport.
September 17th -	Enter Open and People in their Environment - An image showing people in their work or habitual environment. There should be a suitable balance between the people and their surrounds.
October 15th -	Enter Open and Landscape/Seascape - An image of natural landscape or seascape. If people or man made objects are included they should not dominate, and be present only to give scale.
November 19th -	AGM - Curves - An image in which curves of any sort are the dominant subject.
